James Jeffries, Age 29

Private, 23855, 1st Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

KSLI cap badge
K.S.L.I Regiment Cap Badge.

James was the son of Thomas and Rhoda Jeffries and lived at the New Works, Horsehay.

James had been wounded twice in 1916 near Beaumont Hamel, the second time seriously enough to warrant a return to 'Blighty'. However, the demands for men were enough that James was sent back to France in 1918, where he was killed in action on 24th September 1918 during the last few weeks of the war during the Battle for the Hindenburg Line.

James again was another whose body was never found and his name appears on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial Panel 8
